Japan Road Trip – Day One

On Thursday evening, Mark and I decided the upcoming weekend would be a great time to use our Japan Rail Passes and see more of Japan’s countryside. We had a lot of trouble deciding how to narrow down where to go since we had so many places we wanted to see…Mt. Fuji, Hokkaido, Hiroshima, Kyoto…but given our time constraints and Noah’s daily traveling capacity, this is the itinerary we ultimately went with:

Friday evening: Tokyo to Kobe (3.5 hours by train)
Saturday: Kobe to Himeji (1.5 hours one-way)
Sunday: Kobe to Hiroshima (1.25 hours) to Miyajima Island (30 minutes)
Monday: Kobe to Kyoto (1 hour)
Tuesday: Kyoto to Tokyo (3 hours)
