Fun With Dashboard

One of the cool things about having a WordPress blog is the statistics section on the Dashboard, the administrative part of the blog that shows you all sorts of cool stuff about your blog traffic — how many visitors you’ve gotten that day, which entries have had the most views, what sites your visitors clicked on to get to your blog…that sort of stuff. Lately one of my favorite activities is checking the search engine terms that people use to find my blog. My friend Kristin blogs about her search engine terms every now and then and I always find them amusing, so now it’s my turn.
Having been blogging for about a year now, I’ve got a bit of a selection going on. Some of them are not that surprising — things like knitting nerds, hong kong weather, or traveling to tokyo with toddler. Apparently I talk about turtles a lot too because the majority of my search engine terms have stuff to do with turtles. Baby turtles is the most popular search term, followed by turtle fish tank. But then there are other variations on the theme that make me laugh, such as:
- evil turtle
- water turtles killing
- dead sea turtles
- samurai turtles (anyone looking for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle content must have been sorely disappointed)
Something tells me that I’m not known on the blogosphere for my humane treatment of reptiles.
For some reason, my blog also gets a lot of hits from people wanting to know about boobs. Entering these terms will probably send you over to me:
- boobs
- beautiful boobs (oh, why thank you, thank you very much)
- sunken chest boobs (nevermind, ya bastard)
And then there are the terms that are just a little bit on the alarming side:
- faking child abuse (I know which of my entries this one takes you to, but I have to ask why on earth would someone google this?!)
- feed children junk food mom blog (ok, this one just makes me feels like a terrible parent)
So I guess I need to start being more mindful of my content but I guess being known as the turtle guy is better than being known as junk food mom.

Wow…turtles, boobs and junk food. Interesting…. I’d take that list of all of mine lately, which somehow incorporate “white trash” into every phrase! Niiiice…..

I disabled my search engine function but it’d be interesting to see what search terms pop up. Flickr has a similar function and I’m always amazed at how many people search for WWE stuff.

I get lots of “Boob” hits too… I got “fun things to do with kids in the bathtub” once and “Things to do with boobs on anniversaries” and even one about wanking and boobs… don’t know why…
