This post comes courtesy of Jae, who wrote down her list of things she wants to do or see before she dies here. So here is my list:
- Go to Paris and take cooking classes at Le Cordon Bleu.
- Get lost in the walled city of Fes, Morocco, see the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, snowboard in New Zealand, chill out on the beach in Santorini, Greece, eat tapas in Barcelona and Madrid, see the Kremlin and Red Square in Moscow, and go back to Italy, making sure to see Lake Como this time around.
- Eat at French Laundry in Yountville, CA.
- Settle down in a cute neighborhood and start making lasting friendships with people that I can randomly call up to go out for drinks or invite over for dinner. Preferably people with kids that Noah would get along with.
- Learn to speak and understand French, Russian or Japanese.
- Go to Washington DC to see the inauguration of the first black US president (fingers crossed) or the first woman US president.
- Go bungee jumping.
- Run a marathon. Preferably the one in Honolulu or in Maui.
- Read Dante’s The Divine Comedy — the Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso.
- Take a photography class.
- Learn to make 10 dishes really, really well. An addendum to this one would be to have a signature dish.
- Learn how to play the guitar.
- Open up either a B&B in Napa or a small bistro in the SF Bay Area.
I think that about sums up my list…at least the part that I actually consider doable. Like Jae, I want to see your lists too. Link to your list in the comments, or if you don’t have a blog, then write it down in the comments, ok? Ok.
Great list Cathy! I’ll have to think about it…
Oh ha Ha! At least we’re even, seeing I used to play guitar (and
I have half forgotten) AND have taken a photography class. Sort of read Inferno… does that count? ;D
Really fantastic list… way more thought out than mine! Now I’ll have to think harder. Urg!
ooooh…I like ‘em! Open that bistro so I have an excuse to come back to CA…and perhaps we can live in the same cute little neighborhood???
Oh ha HA… now the tables are turned, my friend. If you were me, you would have already learned how to play the guitar (apparently a skill easily lost when you don’t play for a decade) AND would have taken photography class (the dark room kind, not digital). I’ve owned The Divine Comedy since college and have still only gotten part way through Inferno.
Crap, you’re two on my list are far more interesting than my two on yours.
I’ve heard of French Laundry! Sounds delish.
Really great list, love the cute neighborhood with friends and kids wish. And I especially love the B&B idea!
I need to think now and come up wit stuff I wan to do. You can come move to my neighborhood, I’ll go drink with you.
with*, learning to type needs to be first on my list.
I’ve never even thought about a list. Hmmm. Now’s a good a time as any, right?
I love that all of these are actually doable for you. I was reading them and thought, “Are these pipedream wishes?” Yes, I led a very sheltered life.
I hope you get (to do) each and everyone of these things, Cathy.
